The Dean is responsible for all matters related to the functioning of the Faculty.
The Dean’s duties:
- managing the current activities of the Faculty,
- establishing the Faculty’s development strategy in line with the University’s development strategy,
- managing the Faculty’s funds in accordance with the rules applicable at the University,
- acting as the official superior of academic teachers and non-academic employees of the Faculty,
- acting as the direct superior of the dean’s office,
- acting as the tutor of the Faculty’s students,
- ensuring an appropiate process and quality of education,
- determining the duties of deputy deans,
- implementation of the personnel policy at the Faculty,
- making decisions on employments which are not reserved to the competence of the authorities or other managerial functions of the University,
- making decisions on issues related to the Faculty,
- supervising activities of the Faculty’s organizational units,
- representing the Faculty,
- appointing a scientific discipline development council for those desciplines that does not meet the numerical criterion of evaluation,
- appointing the dean’s attorneys,
- appointing faculty commissions after consulting the dean’s council,
- assigning classes and courses held by Faculty employees,
- organizing the work of the dean’s council,
- convening and chairing meetings of joint Scientific Discipline Councils or Councils of the two institutes at the Faculty, after consultation with the particular directors of the two institutes,
- fulfilling other tasks delegated by the Rector.

Responsibilities of the vice-dean:
- making decisions on issues related to the study curriculum;
- supervision of students with disabilities;
- considering other individual cases of Faculty students;
- cooperation and supervision over student research clubs, and faculty student self-government committees;
- assignment of teaching duties to employees and doctoral students, and verification of their fulfillment;
- organization and supervision of the teaching process at the Faculty (in agreement with the Dean’s representative for education)
- supervising the recruitment process for studies;
- coordinating matters related to accreditation proceedings;
- supervision over the implementation of study programs
- coordinating activities related to the evaluation of teaching activities (hospitalization, evaluation of teaching activities, etc.)
- applying for the invention of new fields of study, or specific specializations.

Responsibilities of the vice-dean:
- supervision over the Faculty’s budget;
- preparation of a report on the activities of the Faculty;
- preparation of financial plans and departmental settlements;
- coordination of issues related to employee motivation systems (awards, scholarships, allowances, etc.);
- supervising the records of projects implemented at the Faculty, patent applications, and obtained patents;
- coordination of cooperations with the University environment, including in the field of commercial research;
- identifying, analyzing and assessing potential risks of the Faculty’s functioning;
- coordination of activities related to the promotion of the Faculty and popularization of science (cooperation with the Department of Promotion and Information of the Nicolaus Copernicus University, and the Faculty Team for the Promotion and Popularization of Science).

Responsibilities of the vice-dean:
- organization of scientific activities in cooperation with the Chairmen of Discipline Councils;
- undertaking activities which aim the internationalization of the Faculty;
- supporting employees in preparing documents necessary to conclude bilateral contracts and research stays;
- coordination of isses related to the organization of scientific conferences;
- supervising the preparation and implementation of departmental grant applications (including NCN, MEiN, NCBiR, etc.);
- supporting the cooperation of the Faculty with other domestic and foreign research units;
- supervising foreign and domestic student exchanges (upon consultation with the Vice-Dean for Students and Educational Organization).
