We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sandra Lubińska-Mielińska from our Faculty has been honoured in a prestigious competition organised by the Gdańsk Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). The award was granted for the publication titled “Diagnostic species are crucial for the functioning of plant associations in inland salt marshes”, published in the renowned journal Scientific Reports.
The article was developed as part of Dr. Lubińska-Mielińska’s doctoral dissertation, supervised by Prof. Ass. Agnieszka Piernik and Dr. Dariusz Kamiński. The co-authors of the paper are Dr. Ahmad Rajabi Dehnavi and Dr. Stefany Cárdenas Pérez. The entire team represents the Department of Geobotany and Landscape Planning.
Research conducted on inland salt marshes in the Inowrocław region demonstrated that so-called diagnostic species — plants most characteristic for specific plant communities — play a key role not only in the classification but also in the functioning of these communities, including their resistance to stress caused by salinity. The findings are significant for the protection of the Natura 2000 network habitats and for developing more effective nature conservation strategies.
We warmly congratulate Dr. Sandra Lubińska-Mielińska and the entire team and wish them continued scientific success!
